InfoTrends Projects Digital Photo Frame Shipments to Achieve over 25% Annual Growth through 2012

(Weymouth, MA) January 24, 2008…According to a recent InfoTrends study, the digital photo frame market is projected to achieve a CAGR of 25% in terms of shipments from 2007 to 2012. In the same time period, revenues are expected to generate a CAGR of 12%.

The survey also revealed that young adults ages 18 to 29 in particular have embraced the concept of the digital photo frame. In fact, a significant percentage of respondents in that age bracket stated that they owned a digital photo frame. In addition, these young adults are also the most likely consumers to own more than one frame.

One trend that is encouraging consumers to purchase digital photo frames is that they enable users to free up space on their other image storing devices. Other viewing options (e.g., TV or PC screens) facilitate photo viewing, but the photos usually stay on the storage device and are not viewed again. Digital photo frames enable users to move their photos out of storage and into their everyday lives. They are also easily updated, which means that the consumer can refresh the frame with new or different photos at any given time.

Vendors are also beginning to introduce multifunctional frames, which are likely to capture consumers’ attention. The MediaStreet digital picture frame, for example, combines a DVD player with a photo viewing device. As the market evolves, these multifunctional products really have the potential to take off, as consumers are always seeking a better value for their money.

InfoTrends’ report, “Digital Photo Frames: Freeing Digital Photos from Electronic Shoeboxes,” addresses the current state of the market, considers how digital photo frames fit into the digital imaging ecosystem, provides an industry forecast, and offers a future outlook. It identifies market drivers as well as barriers to adoption and provides vendors with insight into product improvements and innovations that can help them capture share in this burgeoning market. In addition, an appendix is included at the end of the report that outlines some of the digital photo frame vendors and their respective products.
